Steps:

To a suspension of 7-fluoro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid (0.8 g, 4.4 mmol) in EtOH (50 mL) was added SOCl₂(0.66 mL, 9 mmol) very slowly. The mixture was heated underrefluxuntil TLC showed no starting material left. Solvent was removed in vacuo and the crude product was dissolved in EtOAc, washed with sat. NaHCO₃solution, brine and dried over Na₂SO_4.After filtering off, the organic phase was removed in vacuo to provide the ester as a brown powder (0.88 g, 95% yield) after drying. It was used for next step reaction without purification.
