General procedure: A solution of the appropriate aldehyde (40 mmol) in ethanol (30 mL) was added to a solution of l-cysteine (4.8 g, 40 mmol) in water (30 mL). After stirring overnight at room temperature the product was filtered and washed with diethyl ether.
