To a solution of ethyl 2-(4-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)phenoxy)acetate (1 g, 3.27 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran/ethanol (10 mL/10 mL) was added sodium borohydride (124 mg, 3.27 mmol) under ice-water bath.
The mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 2 hours.
The mixture was partitioned between ethyl acetate (100 mL) and water (50 mL).
The organic layer was separated, washed with brine (20 mL*3), dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to give methyl 2-(4-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)phenoxy)ethanol (0.8 g, 93%) as colorless oil.
