Preparation of methyl 1 ,2,4-oxadiazole-3-carboxylate
To a solution of ethyl 2-amino-2-(hydroxyimino)acetate (1 .90 g, 14.4 mmol) intriethoxymethane (9.58 mL, 57.5 mmol) was added BF3.Et20 (0.089 mL, 0.72 mmol). The mixture was heated at 90°C for 2 hours. The mixture was concentrated and the residue was dissolved in dichloromethane (30 mL). The organic layer was washed with 2N HCI (aq) (20 mL), Saturated aqueous NaHC03(20 mL), water (20 mL), brine (20 mL) and dried over Na2S04, filtered and concentrated to give methyl 1 ,2,4-oxadiazole-3-carboxylate (1 .60 g).
