Steps:

y.i STEP 1 - TRIFLUOROACETYLATION

2-(4-Fluorophenyl)ethanamine (4.7 mL, 35.93 mmol) dissolved in DCM (100 mL) was added N,N-diethylethanamine (10 mL, 71.85 mmol) and cooled to -5 °C. (0748) Trifluoroacetic anhydride (6.1 mL, 43.11 mmol) was added drop-wise to above solution and continued stirring at -5 °C for an additional 30 minutes, followed by stirring at 0 °C for 2 h. After reaction completion the reaction mixture was quenched with water and the separated aqueous layer was extracted with methylene chloride. The combined organic extracts were then dried over anhyd. Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. (0749) Purification of the crude by silica gel column chromatography provided the desired product as a white crystalline solid in quantitative yields (8.76 g). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 9.47 (s, 1H), 7.27- 7.21 (m, 2H), 7.15- 7.08 (m, 2H), 3.44- 3.37 (m, 2H), 2.79 (t, J = 7.2 Hz, 2H). Yield: 100%.
