Yield:-

Reaction Conditions:

with cetyltrimethylammonim bromide;sodium hydroxide in acetonitrile at 25;Kinetics;Reagent/catalyst;

Steps:

Dodecyltrimethyl ammoniumbromide (DTABr) was synthesized in the laboratory by adding 1-bromododecane (0.1 mol) to trimethylamine (0.1 mol) dissolved in100 ml isopropyl alcohol. The mixture was refluxed for 48 h. Isopropylalcohol was removed by distillation and the remaining solvent was evaporated by using rotary evaporator. The dried product was recrystallized from absolute alcohol-dry ethyl ether (M.P. = 248 °C). Sodiumhydroxide of Anal R grade was used during the experiments. Deionized double-distilled water (specific conductance: 1-2 × 10-6 Ω-1 cm-1)was used throughout the experimental work.
