b) Methadol. To a 20 ml ethanol solution of 1 g of methadone hydrochloride, 0.40 g of sodium borohydride are added. The reaction is kept at room temperature for 2 h. The solvent is evaporated and the residue suspended in ethyl acetate. After washing the organic layer with agueous 10% bicarbonate solution and drying with anhydrous sodium sulfate, the title compound is isolated. ESI-MS 333.4 [M+Na]⁺
