Steps:

Bromodecarboxylation of α,β-unsaturated carboxylicacids into β-bromo styrenes by conventional solvothermalconditions:

General procedure: In a typical solvothermal reaction mixture, 1.10mmol silica immobilized nanocatalyst (SiO2-HClO4 or SiO2-KHSO4) and 1.0 mmol cinnamic acid (α,β-unsaturated carboxylicacid) and 1.0 mmol KBr (1 mmol) along with anhydrousacetonitrile or (dichloroethane-DCE) were suspended into around bottomed flask and continuously stirred at room temperaturetill the reaction was completed, as confirmed by TLC.Reactions required about 3-6 h for completion, depending onthe nature of the α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid [47]. Afterwards,the reaction mixture was neutralized with aqueoussodium bicarbonate, followed by addition of ethyl acetate. Theorganic layer was separated, dried over Na2SO4 and purifiedwith column chromatography and evaporated under vacuumto get final product (Scheme-I).
