Step 1: Preparation of 5-chloro-2-(morpholine-4-carbonyl)benzaldehyde [00473] Part 1. A 100-mL round-bottom flask was charged with methyl 4-chloro-2- formylbenzoate (1.40 g, 7.05 mmol, 1.00 equiv), LiOH (339 mg, 14.15 mmol, 2.00 equiv), methanol (10 mL), and 0 (1 mL). The resulting solution was stirred overnight at room temperature and adjusted to PH=4 with hydrogen chloride (IN). The solids were collected by filtration to provide 1.10 g (85% yield) of 4-chloro-2-formylbenzoic acid as a white solid. LCMS (ESI, m/z): 183 [M-H]".
