Steps:

General method for acid hydrolysis
General procedure: Each saponin (2 mg) in dioxane (50 μl) and 2 M HCl (50 μl) was heated at 100 °C for 1.0 h. The dioxane was evaporated and the residue was diluted with distilled water and extracted with CHCl3. The H2O layer was passed through an Amberlite IRA-60E column (6 × 60 mm) and the eluate obtained was then concentrated. The sugar components in the residue were detected by GC analysis after being converted to their thiazolidine derivatives as previously described (Hara et al., 1986; Miyase et al., 2010a).
