Steps:

Example 1 4-nitro-3-trifluoromethyl-N-(2-hydroxy-2-methyl-3-aminopropionyl)aniline. (BP-34) A pressure reactor was charged with 4-nitro-3-trifluoromethyl-N-[2,3-epoxy-2-methyl propionyl]aniline, BP-33, (10.0 g, 34.46 mmol) (see FIG. 3) and methanol (100 mL). After cooling to -70° C., ammonia in excess was condensed into the reactor which was sealed and stirred 14 hours. Following evaporation, the crude solid was washed with cold CH₂Cl₂ (50 mL). Filtration and drying gave 6.1 g BP-34 (58% yield). Melting point: 142-145° C.
