8. Preparation of Substrates

General procedure: 8.5 Preparation of 3g, 3v. Thiophenol (4.0 mmol, 1.0 equiv.) was added to the mixture of glacial acetic acid (799.9 mg, 13.3 mmol,3.3 equiv.), 70% perchloric acid (562.5 mg, 5.6 mmol, 1.4 equiv.), and acetic anhydride (518.6 mg, 5.1 mmol,1.3 equiv.) at 0 °C. After tert-butanol (355.8 mg, 4.8 mmol, 1.2 equiv.) was added, the mixture was stirred atroom temperature for 12 h. Then, water (10 mL) was added to the mixture and extracted the reaction mixturewith EtOAc (8 mL × 3). The combined organic layers were washed with 20% aqueous sodium hydroxidesolution (10 mL × 2), dried with Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give the corresponding product.
