(e) N-(Benzoyl)-D,L-norleucine D,L-Norleucine (39.3 g., 300 mmole) is taken into 150 ml. of 2N sodium hydroxide and while stirring in an ice bath 150 ml. of 2N sodium hydroxide and benzoyl chloride (38.3 ml., 330 mmole) are added over a 30 minute period. The bath is removed and after 1.5 hours the reaction mixture is extracted with ether. The aqueous portion is acidified with 2N hydrochloric acid and the crystals filtered to give 68.9 g. of N-(benzoyl)-D,L-norleucine; m.p. (125) 131°-133°.
