Yield:514-78-3 99.5%

Reaction Conditions:

with cerium(IV) oxide;sulfuric acid;potassium iodide in dichloromethane;water at 0; under 760.051 Torr; for 2.5 h;UV-irradiation;Reagent/catalyst;Temperature;

Steps:

1-5; 1-3 Example 5

Put 10.72g (20mmol) of β-carotene in a 500ml three-necked flask, add 120g of dichloromethane, stir at 0°C, add 0.45g of catalyst potassium iodide, add 4.5g of cerium oxide and mix well, turn on the UV lamp (power 40W ), the reaction pressure is normal, and then 2.0g of 8wt% sulfuric acid aqueous solution is added dropwise to the flask (dropping time 1.0h), after the dropwise addition is completed, react at 0°C for 1.5h, filter, wash 3 times with water, separate the organic phase, and spin Dry, then recrystallize with acetone, filter and dry to obtain a purple-red solid. Sample the dichloromethane to dissolve and analyze the liquid phase. The content of canthaxanthin is 11.22g, and the yield is 99.50%.
