Step 2: Synthesis of Intermediate B
At room temperature, NaOH (4.4g, 108mmol) was added to a solution of 5-acetyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (4.0g, 22mmol) in a mixture of methanol (20mL) and water (20mL). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours, and adjusted to pH 2 with concentrated hydrochloric acid. The solid was filtered out to obtain 3.2 g of off-white solid. Yield: 94%. LC-MS (APCI): m/z = 155.1.
