Steps:

3.C C. (R)-2-Amino-3-(4-ethoxy-phenyl)-propionic acid

(R)-2-Butoxycarbonylamino-3-(4-ethoxy-phenyl)-propionic acid (4.0g, 12.93mmol) was dissolved in 4M HC1 in dioxan (150 mL). After one hour at room temperature the solvent was removed in vacuo to give a white solid identified as (R)-2-amino-3-(4-ethoxy-phenyl)-propionic acid hydrochloride (3.18g, 12.9mmol, 100%). [M+H]⁺ = 210.18
