Reaction Conditions:
with copper;potassium carbonate at 170 - 180;
Steps:
Dibenzo-p-dioxin (2)
Dibenzo-p-dioxin (2) was obtained by thermal condensation of o-chlorophenol (0.20 mol) in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate (15 g) and ultrafine copper powder (2 g) under constant stirring at 170-180 °C for 6-8 h. After cooling the reaction mixture to 20 °C, 20% NaOH aqueous solution was added thereto. Filtrated dibenzo-p-dioxin was precipitated with ethanol and recrystallized from benzene. Crystalline white product melts at 118-121 °C (see Ref. 24: 120-121 °C). The yield was 45% (on o-chlorophenol basis).
