Steps:

General procedure: To a stirred (m)ethanolic solution (only 5b in methanol) of hydrazine hydrate (17.2 mmol) was added enol ether 3a-d (17.2 mmol) dropwise at rt. The reaction mixture was heated under reflux for 1-1.5 h. After cooling the crude product was filtered and recrystallized from the appropriate solvent or purified by column chromatography.
