A solution of ethyl hydrogen seburate (5.0 g, 24.7 mmol) in anhydrous dichloromethane (15 mL) containing 5 drops of N, N-dimethylformamide was treated with oxalyl chloride (2.16 mL, 24.7 mmol), and stirred at room temperature under nitrogen for 3 hours. The solvents were removed under reduced pressure to afford a colorless oil (5.49 g, 101%).
