Ethyl 7-(2-naphthoyl)heptanoate (49g) Following a procedure analogous to that described above for 49a, but substituting 2-naphthoyl chloride for benzoyl chloride, the title compound was obtained as a white solid in 54% yield: 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ8.47 (s, 1H), 7.86-8.05 (m, 4H), 7.51-7.62 (m, 2H), 4.12 (q, J=6.9 Hz, 2H), 3.10 (t, J=7.5 Hz, 2H), 2.31 (t, J=7.5 Hz, 2H), 1.80 (m, 2H), 1.62 (m, 2H), 1.41 (m, 4H), 1.25 (t, J=6.9 Hz, 3H).
