0321] To a solution of 2,3-dihydrofuro[3,2-6]ρyridine (22.3, 3.82 g, 0.0315 mol) in sulfuric acid (20 mL) cooled to 0 ⁰C was added, drop wise, a mixture of nitric acid (3 mL, 0.07 mol) and sulfuric acid (3 mL) and the mixture stirred at 0 ⁰C for 1 hour. Thin layer chromatography indicated complete reaction. The reaction mixture was poured into ice water and extracted with chloroform. The organic extracts were washed with water, brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and evaporated under reduced pressure to give the product as a white solid (4.91 g, 93%).¹H NMR (CDCl₃), δ 3.46 (t, J= 9 Hz, 2H), 4.87 (t, J= 9 Hz, 2H), 7.18 (d, J= 9 Hz, IH), 8.15 (d, J= 9 Hz, IH). MS analysis m/z = 166+1.
