N-Boc-O-benzyl-L-serine (2.00 g; 6.76 mmol) was dissolved in EtOH (80 mL)and thionyl chloride (1.47 mL; 20.3 mmol) was added drop-wise to the solution. After stirring for 4 h at 78 °Cthe solvent was removed in vacuo to give analytically pure 37 (1.75 g; quant.) as colorless solid
