Steps:
Step 1: methyl 2-methoxypyrimidine-5-carboxylate
To a solution of methyl 2-chloropyrimidine-5-carboxylate (1 g, 5.79 mmol) in MeOH (10 mL) was added sodium methoxide in CH3OH (5.4 M, 1.07 mL) at r.t. The reaction was stirred at r.t. for 1 h. The reaction solvent removedunder reduced pressure and the residue was washed by H2O (20 mL). The mixture was filtered and the filter cake give methyl 2-methoxypyrimidine-5-carboxylate (950 mg, 5.65 mmol, 98% yield) as a light yellow solid. LC-MS (ES+, Method A), 0.31 min, m/z 169.1 [M+H]+.
