[0355] To a solution of 3- (5-METHOXY-LH-INDOL-3-YL)-ACRYLIC acid methyl ester 3 (3 g; 0.013 mol) in tetrahydrofuran (THF, 70 mL) was added palladium on activated carbon (10%; 0.72 g). The solution was DEOXYGENATED under vacuum and hydrogen was introduced to the reaction flask from a balloon filled with hydrogen. The process was repeated three times and the reaction mixture was stirred for 16 h at room temperature. The mixture was filtered through celite and the filtrate was evaporated under reduced pressure to yield ester 4 as a while solid (2.78 g; 92% yield; M + 1 = 234.0).
