To a mixture of 4-bromo-2-fluoro-5-methylbenzoic acid (1 g, 4.29 mmol) in MeOH (20 mL) at 0 °C was added thionyl chloride (3.13 mL, 42.9 mmol) dropwise over 15 minutes. The reaction mixture was slowly warmed to room temperature and stirred for 1 hour. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo to afford methyl 4-bromo-2-fluoro-5- methylbenzoate (1 g, 4.05 mmol, 94 % yield). MS (M+1) m/z: 247.0 (MH+). LC retention time 0.93 min [Al]
