with potassium carbonate in butanone at 78 - 80; for 2 h;

Steps:

Methyl-4-propoxy benzoate (4)

To the stirred solution of methyl paraben (0.200 Kg, 1.31 mol) was treated with 1-bromopropane (0.194 Kg, 1.57 mol) in the presence of K2CO3 (0.362 Kg, 2.62 mol) in 2-butanone (1400 mL). Followed the procedure as mentioned in compound 2 and isolated the product (4). Yield: 0.246 Kg, 96.52 %.
