Compound 79C: methyl 5-(methylsulfonyl)-2-nitrobenzoate To a solution of Oxone (2.03 g, 3.30 mmol) in H2O (30 mL) was added a solution of 79B (500 mg, 2.20 mmol) in MeOH (10 mL). The mixture was stirred for 3 days. The solution was extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with water, dried over MgSO4, concentrated under reduced pressure to compound 79C (510 mg). [M+H] calc'd for C9H9NO6S, 260.0; found 260.0.
