Yield:38605-63-9 73%

Reaction Conditions:

in water at 0 - 20; for 3 h;Reflux;

Steps:

General method B:

To a stirred suspension of the α-amino acid (1 eq) in water (10 vol), was added potassium isocyanate (3-5 eq) and the reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 3 hours, cooled to 0-5 °C and the pH is adjusted to 3 with the addition of concentrated HCl [CARE: vigorous evolution of carbon dioxide]. The resulting white precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with ice cold water (2vols), acetone (2 vols) and dried to a constant weight to afford the desired urea intermediates as white solids without the need for further purification.
