Yield:-

Reaction Conditions:

with hydroxylamine hydrochloride;sodium carbonate in ethanol;water at 20; for 15 h;Heating / reflux;

Steps:

To a solution of 6-methyl-2-pyridnecarbonitrile (1 eq, 4.23 mmol, 0.50 g) in EtOH (6 ml) is added a solution of hydroxylamine chloride (3.6 eq, 15.2 mmol, 1.06 g) in H2O (3 ml) and sodium carbonate (3.2 eq, 13.5 mmol, 1.44 g) in H2O (3 ml) at room temperature. The reaction mixture is heated at reflux for 15 hours. The reaction mixture is cooled to room temperature and filtered, rinsing the solid with H2O. The residue is dried under vacuum to afford N-Hydroxy-6-methyl-pyridine-2-carboxamidine, as a white solid; MH+ 152
