2-Ch.oro-3-nitro thiophene (1 g, 6.1 mmol) was dissolved in THF (20 mL) and treated with methylamine (2M in THF, 6 mL). The resulting reaction was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours, and then concentrated in vacuo to provide compound 14A, which was used in the next step without further purification. HPLC-MS t_R = 1.23 min (UV_{254 nm}); mass calculated for formula C₅H₆N₂O₂S 233.1, observed LCMS m/z 159.1 (M+H).
