Method-CN, iV-Dimethyl 3-phenyl-3-chloropropylamine hydrochloride (10 g) was added to a stirred suspension of sodium hydroxide (3.6 g), toluene (36 ml), dimethyl sulfoxide (4.0 ml) and o- cresol ( 5.54g) followed by stirring at 85-90 °C for 7 hours. Reaction mixture was cooled and water was added to the mixture. The layers were separated and aqueous layer was extracted with toluene. All organic extracts were combined, washed with 10% sodium hydroxide, brine, then with water and dried over sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off to obtain Hg (95.97%) crude title compound having purity 93.88% by HPLC.
