Yield:2656-71-5 48%

Reaction Conditions:

with hydrazine in ethanol at 20; for 2 h;

Steps:

3

To a magnetically stirred solution of hydrazine hydrate (243 ml, 5 mol) was very slowly added a solution of 1-bromopentane (62 ml, 0.50 mol) in ethanol (50 ml) while keeping the temperature at 20° C. The resulting mixture was reacted at room temperature for 2 hours. The mixture was extracted with diethyl ether. The diethyl ether extract was concentrated and BaO (5 gram) was added to the residue. Distillation in vacuo gave n-pentylhydrazine (Intermediate XI-1) at 30-40 mbar pressure at 72° C.-78° C. (30.36 gram, 48% yield). 1H-NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 0.90 (t, J=7, 3H), 1.27-1.38 (m, 4H), 1.45-1.58 (m, 2H), 2.76 (t, J=7, 2H), 2.85 (br s, 3H).
