Synthesis of ligands

General procedure: Ligands L1, L2 and L3 were synthesized following the literature procedure[38b] for the preparation of Schiff bases involving the condensation reaction of primary diamines with analdehyde/ketone precursor in ethanol under refllux conditions.Synthesis of 1,2-bis-(pyridin-3-ylmethylene)hydrazine (L1) L1was prepared by taking 0.93 mL (10 mmol) 3-pyridinecarboxaldehydeand 0.25 mL (5 mmol) hydrazine hydrate. Yield: 76%, Melting point:146 C; FTIR (cm 1, KBr pellet): 3086 (w), 3040 (w) , 2993 (w) 2932(m), 1620 (s), 1582 (m), 1481 (m), 1412 (s), 1304 (s), 1219 (m), 1180(w), 1088 (w), 1018 (s), 818 (s), 702 (s) (Fig. S1).1H NMR (400 MHz,CDCl3) ppm: 8.89 (s, 2H), 8.57 (dd, J = 4.7, 1.4 Hz, 2H), 8.54 (s, 2H),8.07 (d, J = 7.9 Hz, 2H), 7.26 (dd, J = 7.8, 4.8 Hz, 2H) (Fig. S2).13C NMR(101 MHz, CDCl3) ppm: 159.66, 151.97, 150.37, 134.72, 129.56,123.68 (Fig. S3).
