with lithium hydroxide in tetrahydrofuran;methanol;water at 20; for 3 h;

Steps:

4-Nitrobutanoic acid (7f)
A solution of methyl 4-nitrobutyrate (7a, 2.00 g, 13.19 mmol) in 30 mL of a THF/MeOH mixture (1:1) was treated with a lithium hydroxide solution (3 M, 13.2 mL). The resulting yellow mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. TLC analysis indicated that the reaction was complete. The excess solvent was removed and EtOAc (20 mL) was added to the crude material. After the layers were separated, the aqueous phase was acidified with HCl 1 M (15 mL) until pH 3 and was extracted with EtOAc (3 x 15 mL). The combined organic phases were dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure resulting in acid 7f (1.56 g, 11,73 mmol, 89%) as a yellow pale oil.
