2.2.2. Synthesis of 4-(decyloxy)aniline, 2

To a 250-ml round bottom flask containing compound 1 in ethanol (80ml) , an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (22.4 equiv.) was added. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 24 h. Subsequently, excess solvent was removed using a rotatory evap- orator. The crude product was washed with distilled water and re- crystallized from ethanol. Yield: 91.10 %. FTIR (KBr) /cm -1 : 3381, 3310 (N-H), 2920, 2852 (C sp3 -H), 1515 (C = C), 1247 (C-O). 1 H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl 3 ) /ppm: 0.88 (t, 3H, J = 7 Hz, CH 3 ), 1.33 (m, 12H, CH 2 ), 1.44 (m, 2H, CH 2 CH 3 ), 1.73 (m, 2H, OCH 2 CH 2 ), 3.88 (t, 2H, J = 7 Hz, OCH 2 ), 6.24 (s, 2H, NH 2 ), 6.79 (d, 4H, Ar-H).
