(R)-(+)-(3,4-Dimethoxy)benzyl-1-phenylethylamine synthesis

with sodium borohydrid in methanol

Steps:

R.1 (R)-N-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)-α-phenylethylamine
REFERENCE EXAMPLE 1 (R)-N-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)-α-phenylethylamine 3,4-Dimethoxybenzaldehyde (67.51 g, 0.406 mole) was dissolved in methanol (240 mL) and R-1-phenylethylamine (48.47 g, 0.4 mole) was added at 50° C. in a thin stream. The mixture was stirred at the same temperature for 1 hr. Sodium borohydride (9.08 g) was added at 20° C.-30° C. and the mixture was stirred overnight. The mixture was extracted with toluene, washed and concentrated to give (R)-N-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)-α-phenylethylamine (107.1 g). The yield was 98.67%. IR spectrum: (ν cm^-1) 3325 (N-H), 1514 (N-H)
