Preparation of Sodium Behenate In 945 ml water at 90° C were dissolved 32.4 g of behenic acid, 9.9 g of arachidic acid and 5.6 g of stearic acid. Aqueous 1.5M sodium hydroxide solution of 98 ml was added thereto, while stirring at high speed. Then, after adding 0.93 ml of concentrated nitric acid, the reaction mixture was cooled to 55° C and stirred for 30 min. to obtain a sodium behenate aqueous solution.
