Step C Spiro-(2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline-4,4'-piperidine) To a solution of 0.3 g (0.97 mmol) of 1'-trifluoroacetyl-spiro-(2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline-4,4'-piperidine) (from Step B) in 4 mL of MeOH was added 0.16 g (2.9 mmol) of KOH in 1 mL of water. After stirring the reaction for 16 H the solution was concentrated and the residue was partitioned between EtOAc and water. The EtOAc layer was washed with brine, dried with Na₂ SO₄ and concentrated to give 0.16 g (76%) of the title compound as a white solid. ¹ H NMR (CDCl₃) δ 1.6-2.0 (m, 4H), 2.72 (s, 2H), 2.95 (m, 4H), 6.7-7.4 (m, 4H), 8.4 (br s, 1H).
