Synthesis of 5-hydroxytetrahydropyrimidin-2-one (11)

Monomer Synthesis Example 1-1 Synthesis of 5-hydroxytetrahydropyrimidin-2-one (11) A mixture of 49.1 g of 1,3-diamino-2-propanol (10), 64.4 g of diethyl carbonate, and 3.79 g of 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene was stirred and heated under reflux for 6 hours. Stirring was continued for a further 10 hours while gradually removing ethanol formed during reaction. Thereafter, the solvent and diethyl carbonate were distilled off in vacuum, obtaining 64.4 g of the end compound, 5-hydroxytetrahydropyrimidin-2-one (11). Yield 100%. The end compound was used in the subsequent step without further purification. 1H-NMR (600 MHz in CDCl3): δ = 2.91 (2H, dd), 3.13 (2H, dd), 3.81 (1H, tt), 5.96 (2H, s) ppm
