Steps:

9H-Thioxantene (B)
To a suspension of LiAlH4 (1.6 g, 44 mmol) in dry THF (100 mL) was added a solution of AlCl3 (5.6 g, 84 mmol) in dry THF (100 mL) at 0 °C, followed by adding thioxantone (A, 5.0 g, 24 mmol). After reflux for 1 h, the mixture was cooled to 0 °C and quenched with ethyl acetate. Water was then added very slowly, and extraction was performed with ethyl acetate for several times. The organic layer was washed successively with 5% HCl aqueous solution, saturated NaHCO3 aqueous solution, and brine three times for each, and was dried over MgSO4. Removal of solvent gave B as apale yellow solid (4.5 g, 95%).
