Steps:
3B Masticadienolic acid (MLA)
Masticadienonic acid (500 mg) was dissolved in methanol (30ML) and cooled to 0°C. NaBtLt (83 mg; 2.0 eq.) was added and the mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. After TLC (hexane : ethylacetate) showed full conversion, the reaction mixture cooled to 0°C and quenched by addition of 20 ML cold water. The methanol was evaporated from the mixture, which was then extracted with diethyl ether. The crude product was purified by column chromatography over silica gel (DCM:MeOH=95:5 to 90: 10) to give MLA as white solid (400 mg; 80%).
