Uses

Misch Metal is used as dope for non-ferrous metal, such as aluminum (Al), iron-chrome-aluminum (Fe-Cr-Al), et al. This is to increase the operating life of Fe-Cr-Al heating devices. It is also used to manufacture flints in cigarette lighters.

An alloy of cerium(50%), lanthanum (25%), neodymium(18%), praseodymium (5%), and otherrare earths. It is used alloyed withiron (up to 30%) in lighter flints, andin small quantities to improve themalleability of iron. It is also addedto copper alloys to make themharder, to aluminium alloys to makethem stronger, to magnesium alloysto reduce creep, and to nickel alloysto reduce oxidation.
