Uses | Liquid Paraffin is a liquid hydrocarbon mixture. In medicine it is mainly used to lubricate the bowels and can be used to treat constipation and fecal incontinence. It is not recommended due to its adverse effects, but is still used for this purpose. it is contraindicated in children under 3 years of age. It is also used as an ointment, an emollient for skin diseases, a lubricant for dry eyes and in the treatment of tuberculosis. | Side effects | Liquid Paraffin can cause lipoid pneumonia or pneumonia when inhaled. It also interferes with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K); leaking from the anus can cause local irritation. In the treatment of tuberculosis, it can cause granulomatous reactions when administered by injection. |
