| Description | Myristyl Myristate is the ester of myristyl alcohol and myristic acid. It is a white-to-yellow waxy solid with a typical waxy odor. It is soluble in mineral oils, but insoluble in water, isopropanol, ethanol, glycerol, and propylene glycol. It is produced by esterification of myristic acid and myristic alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst. The product is stripped to remove excess s myristyl alcohol, neutralized the catalyst with alkali, and then purified to separate Myristyl Myristate[1-2]. | | Uses | Myristate myristate is able to be used as a wax base in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It is a soft wax that melts at body temperature, so it gives a velvety texture when applied to the skin. It can be added to some soaps, and excess myristic acid can produce pearl effects. At lower concentrations, it improves the spreadability of lotion cosmetics.
