| Description | Kitasamycin, formerly called leucomycin, was found in the culture broth of Streptoverticillium kitasatoensis by Hata et al. of the Kitasato Institute, Japan, in 1953. This was the first macrolide antibiotic with a 16-membered lactone constituent.
