Background
Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is a high boiling solvent used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, resin, paint, dye, etc[1]. CAS No: 111-90-0 of Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is colorless, stable water absorption liquid and combustible. Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether has a moderately pleasant smell and is slightly sticky. The melting point of Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is - 78 ℃ (vitreous) (- 25 ℃), boiling point is 202.7 ℃ (195 ℃), refractive index is 1.4273 (1.4300), molar heat of vaporization is 47.10kj/mol, flash point (open cup) is 96.1 ℃, vapor pressure (20 ℃) < 130pa, viscosity (20 ℃) is 3.85mpa · s. Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is soluble in water and hydrocarbons, and acetone, benzene, chloroform, ethanol, ether and pyridine are miscible.

Application
Due to its high boiling point and low volatilization rate, Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether can be used as a solvent for paints, inks, resins, soluble oils, dyes, resins, nitrocellulose, etc. it is also used in organic synthesis. Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether can be used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, resin, paint, dyes, etc. it is a high boiling solvent. It is also used as diluent and some chemical intermediates. Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether can be used as one of the ingredients of automobile engine cleaning agent
Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is mainly used as mutual solvent carrier solvent in paint and ink. (ethylene glycol ether) is mainly used in Islamic countries as an ethanol substitute for citrus essence. Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is a high boiling solvent. Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether can be used as a solvent for cellulose, resin, gum, paint, ink and dye for printing chemicalbook brush, mutual solvent of mineral oil soap and mineral oil sulfide oil mixture, non paint colorant, fiber printing and dyeing agent, thinner of varnish and paint. Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether can be used as a solvent, as well as in the preparation of varnishes and plastics.
Toxicity
Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether has the characteristics of slight toxicity Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether does not cause obvious irritation to eyes and skin Rat oral LD50 = 9005 ml / kg Rabbit percutaneous LD50 = 16500ml / kg It can inhibit the central nervous system. Rat oral LD50 8690mg / kg. Avoid long-term contact with skin. Operators should wear gas masks to avoid long-term inhalation.
It is packed in glass bottles and reinforced with wooden boxes to prevent impact, heat and fire. Store and transport according to the regulations on flammable and toxic substances. Wear goggles or mask when handling Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether. If Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether comes into contact with eyes accidentally, please wash it with plenty of water immediately and consult a doctor.
Preparation
Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether can be obtained by condensation of diethylene glycol and ethanol.
Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether can also be prepared by ethylene oxide method. First, absolute ethanol and boron trifluoride ether solution are added to the reactor, and then ethylene oxide is added. When the reaction temperature rises to 45 ℃, cool and control the reaction temperature below 70 ℃. After the reaction is completed, after neutralization and vacuum distillation, collect the fraction below 90 ℃ (0.1MPa) to obtain the finished product.
Matters needing attention
Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is combustible in case of open fire, high temperature and strong oxidant; Combustion emits irritating smoke. When transporting diethylene glycol ethyl ether, ensure that the packaging of diethylene glycol ethyl ether is complete, light loading and light unloading; When storing Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, ensure that the warehouse is ventilated, away from open fire and high temperature, and Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether and oxidant should be stored separately. Fire extinguishing agents such as foam, dry powder and carbon dioxide can be used for combustion of Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether.
