Hazard Information | Back Directory | [General Description]
Colorless liquid with a weak fruity odor. Floats and mixes slowly with water. | [Reactivity Profile]
ETHYLENE GLYCOL MONOBUTYL ETHER ACETATE(112-07-2) is incompatible with the following: Oxidizers . ETHYLENE GLYCOL MONOBUTYL ETHER ACETATE(112-07-2) is an ether-alcohol derivative. The ether being relatively unreactive. Flammable and/or toxic gases are generated by the combination of alcohols with alkali metals, nitrides, and strong reducing agents. They react with oxoacids and carboxylic acids to form esters plus water. Oxidizing agents convert alcohols to aldehydes or ketones. Alcohols exhibit both weak acid and weak base behavior. They may initiate the polymerization of isocyanates and epoxides. | [Air & Water Reactions]
Water soluble. | [Health Hazard]
Inhalation of concentrated vapor may cause headache, nausea, dizziness. Liquid causes irritation of eyes and mild irritation of skin. Ingestion produces same symptoms as inhalation. | [Chemical Properties]
colourless to pale yellow liquid with a mild odour | [Flammability and Explosibility]
Nonflammable | [Purification Methods]
Shake the ester with anhydrous Na2CO3, filter and distil it in a vacuum. Redistillation can then be carried out at atmospheric pressure. [Dunbar & Bolstad J Org Chem 21 1041 1956, Beilstein 2 IV 215.] |
