Dodecenylsuccinic anhydride, mixture of isomers (DDSA) belongs to the class of long chained aliphatic anhydrides that are used as catalysts and organic acid anhydride based hardeners that find usage in electrical industry.
| [Uses]
Dodecenylsuccinic anhydride (DDSA) is an age-old modifying agent. DDSA is widely reported as a curing agent for polymers and additives in polymer production. DDSA curing by polymerization with epoxy mixtures is reported to improve flexibility due to the presence of the 12-carbon chain. Moreover, the slow curing property of this organic acid anhydride allows adequate time for impregnation of the substrate. The surface treatment of aluminum hydroxide with DDSA reduces its tendency to nucleate crystallization and improve the filler’s dispersion as the hydrocarbon chains separate the charged aluminum hydroxide from the polymer. At specific concentrations, DDSA increased the growth of β-polypropylene. DDSA could be used as a component of an embedding mixture for electron microscopy[1-2]. | [References]
