2-Ethyl-4-(2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-yl)-but-2-en-1-ol is amixture of the (E)- and
(Z)-isomers. It is a pale yellow liquid with a powerful sandalwood odor and a slight
rose nuance. The mixture can be prepared starting from α-campholenaldehyde
and butanal. The intermediate unsaturated aldehyde is partially hydrogenated to
give the title alcohol.
