Chemische Eigenschaften
Brazilian sassafras oil was obtained by steam distillation of the roots, trunks,
and branches of Ocotea pretiosa (Nees)Mez. (Lauraceae), a tree growingwild
in Southern Brazil.
The main component of the oil was safrole, which may make up more than 90% of the oil. Due to a ruinous exploitation, the Brazilian government
placed restrictions on cutting of O. pretiosa trees, so that Brazilian
sassafras oil is not available any longer.
Sicherheitsprofil
Moderately toxic by ingestion. Askin irritant. When heated to decomposition it emits acridsmoke and irritating fumes.
